Learn How to Be a Successful Insurance Agent Who Works Remotely

Many of us have experienced a switch to working from home recently. If you’re fortunate to have a job that allows this transition, you may feel fortunate! Working from home has its perks—no commute, no need to get dressed up, and comfortable surroundings, to name a few

However, no situation is perfect, and working from home also comes with its fair share of challenges. This is especially true if you’re home with your significant other or children and don’t have a dedicated office space for peace and quiet. And if you were used to meeting up with prospective clients, being remote requires getting a little creative to keep up communications

But don’t worry—by taking a few steps, you can maintain a successful insurance agent career without leaving your house. Just follow these tips:

  • Find a space where you can focus. Not all of us have an office. But it’s still important to find a corner of the house where you can work as distraction-free as possible. You may need to set boundaries with others in your home that your workspace is yours and yours alone.
  • Make time for important calls. Reaching out to clients and prospects is a big part of your job. Working from home, you’ll still need to maintain a schedule and to-do list, just as you would in the office. Choose times of day to make phone calls when activity in your home is at a minimum, such as when children are doing schoolwork or napping. It can also help if you let your family or roommates know to keep it down during the hours when you plan to make your phone calls.
  • Get creative with video. You can use video chat to get in touch with your contacts and make calls more personal. Services like FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, and WebEx make video chatting very easy. If you’re sending out emails to clients and prospects, you can give them a personal touch by including a video of yourself that you shoot using your smartphone. It could include an introduction, key points about a product, or answers to their questions.
  • Take advantage of helpful software. Staying on task is much easier when you use software that helps you organize names, addresses, contact info and other important information. If you’re not sure what’s available or need training to take full advantage, talk to your manager to learn more.
