Job Description:

Our rapidly growing managing general agency (MGA) specializes in serving niche industry segments with challenging-to-place insurance risks. We have developed best-in-class programs for sectors such as Legal Cannabis, Entertainment (including Liquor Liability), Logging, Mobile Home Parks, and Psychedelics (including D&O), and are continually evaluating new market opportunities.

We are currently seeking a motivated Underwriter to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the launch of our new Public Access property program, focusing primarily on multi-location non-critical cat risks. During this initial phase, you will actively contribute to building internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) and workflows. Additionally, you will gain visibility into the expansion of our MGA, participating in efforts to increase our authority with current carrier partners and secure additional reinsurance support. This expansion will empower us to underwrite high Total Insured Value (TIV) single and multi-location schedules and provide CAT capacity, including coverage for Named Wind Storm, Earthquake, and Flood, in an exceptionally challenging property market.

Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite, quote, bind, and invoice a portfolio of high-volume new and renewal business within the Public Access property program.
  • Initially manage sourced broker relationships and eventually develop new sources of distribution to expand market reach.
  • Refer accounts to carriers as necessary, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and being present in the office to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Capable of working independently at a high level, demonstrating strong decision-making skills and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree required; additional certifications or industry-related qualifications are a plus.
  • Preferred experience with spot fac reinsurance, demonstrating an understanding of reinsurance principles and practices.

As a Property Programs Underwriter, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of our MGA by underwriting diverse property risks, building relationships with brokers, and participating in strategic initiatives to expand our market presence. This role offers exposure to various facets of underwriting and program development within a dynamic and evolving industry landscape.
