Position Summary:


The AVP Allied Healthcare Underwriting position is responsible for underwriting professional liability and medical malpractice accounts within the Allied Health space. Reporting to the Manager based in Los Angeles, and working closely with a team member in Atlanta, the successful candidate will play a key role in building and managing a shared book of business in this specialized sector.

Location: Denver, CO or Houston, TX

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and underwrite Allied Health business, including but not limited to Physical Therapy, Sports Therapists, Psychologists, Long Term Care facilities, etc.
  • Assess risk factors, determine appropriate coverage, and establish pricing strategies to ensure profitability and growth objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including claims, legal, and actuarial teams, to develop comprehensive underwriting solutions.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to drive new business opportunities and enhance retention efforts.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks within the healthcare sector to inform underwriting decisions and product development initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior underwriting staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field; advanced degree or industry certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in professional liability and medical malpractice insurance, with a focus on Allied Health accounts.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risk exposures and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a hybrid or remote work environment while collaborating effectively with remote team members.
