The Role
The ML Practice Leader, Underwriting Management is a strategically important role and its vision to become America’s Leading Small Business Insurer. In this role, this leader is charged with leading our underwriting for our Private D&O, EPL, Fiduciary and Crime products through both our Digital and Traded channels. The role reports to the SVP, Underwriting Management.

Key Responsibilities include:
· Leadership and collaboration across the organization.
· Appetite, Risk Selection & Forms
· Limits, Aggregation, Authority, Training & Emerging Risk
· Distribution engagement

Appetite, Risk Selection & Forms:
Implementing a strategy to qualify, select and assess risk which aligns with robust underwriting controls.
Building and Maintaining Risk Evaluation, UW Engine, Guidelines, Scoring and third-party data
Ensures Forms are fit for competitive and risk management purposes.

Revenue Growth, Distribution & Customer Centricity:
Engage directly with internal and external distribution partners to execute the business plan, maintain a pulse on the trading environment and drive product development.
Builds credibility as a subject matter expert on strategic underwriting issues and acts as the underwriting spokesperson in the industry.
Ensures product and services resonate with customer whether direct or through intermediaries.
Delivers strategies to maintain and expand appetite to drive growth.

Limits, Aggregation, Authority, Training & Emerging Risk:
Sets individual risk, concentration risk and aggregate limit strategies.
Deploys authority to and sets training agenda for team.
Delivers regular training to Distribution teammates.
Sets target Referral Trigger Strategy and Referral Volume KPI.
Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes affecting insurance underwriting and make recommendations for adjustments to policies and practices.
Claims, UW & Actuarial Feedback Loop:
Collaboration across the organization to ensure that Claims, UW and Actuarial have a clear view of the underwriting roadmap, and challenges and opportunities to our loss ratios through:
Transparent and Timely Communication & Collaboration
Operating Routines to hand off data and anecdotal information.
Regular review of analysis of loss cost KPI’s.

Leadership
Encourages continuous improvement of results to increase productivity, profitability and ensure standards set by underwriting excellence are met.
Collaborates across the organization to drive profitable growth agenda.
Continuously improves the business.

Requirements:
Minimum 10 years, operating at a leadership level as an expert in Small business & Digital Underwriting.
Decision Quality: Ability to make effective decisions to drive profitability.
Strategic Mindset: Ability to develop long term underwriting strategies which evolve with changing markets.
Innovation: Ability to develop and implement underwriting solutions that lead in the market
Entrepreneurial outlook and commercial sensibilities to apply broad thinking to business issues.
Dynamic problem-solving ability, including the ability to manage and prioritize several potentially competing objectives.
High learning agility and intellectual curiosity, combined with the organizational coordination to work in a matrixed environment.
Collaborative and effective at bringing together different parts of the organization to drive results.
Strong ‘board room’ presence with maturity, confidence, and experience to interact effectively with various levels of personnel/management both internally and externally.
Advanced communication skills, including consensus building and presentation skills.
Ability to, in both written and oral presentations, clearly communicate technical issues in simple, understandable terms.
Strong management and leadership abilities with a focus on recruiting and retaining best talent and capitalizing on the existing strengths within the organization.
CPCU or RPLU designation a plus, but not required.
