As you prepare for your upcoming insurance interview, you’re probably getting ready to answer common questions. But did you know you should also be prepared to ask a few questions of your own? It’s true! In fact, the questions you ask of the interviewer may be just as important as the answers you give—because they show you’ve done your research, you’ve been listening, and you’re dedicated to doing your very best.
Five top questions to ask
Smart questions help you shine brightly at an interview but also help you decide if you are truly interested in the job. The following five questions are some of the best you can ask:
- How have past employees succeeded at this position? What is the employer looking for, and how well do you fit the bill? Also, what are the expectations, and how do you compare? You can get a much clearer picture of what it would be like working at this job when you ask this question.
- Beyond the skills required to do this job, what soft skills would help me succeed? Again, you want to do well, and this question helps you understand how to make that happen. It can also give you a jumpstart on what skills to showcase or further develop once you start.
- Do you have any hesitations about me or my qualifications? This question will promote a frank discussion of how well you may be doing during the interview. It also gives you a chance to dispel any concerns the hiring manager may have about you. Though it can be awkward, this question shows you’re confident and straightforward, which are both desirable qualities.
- What do you like most about working for this company? It can help to get information like this right from someone who already works there. Based on what they say, does it sound like a place you still want to work? If the interviewer hesitates in their answer, this can be a red flag that maybe it’s not the best job choice for you.
- Have I answered all your questions? If you’re really interested in the job, the last thing you want is an interviewer on the fence about you. Help clear any concerns they may have by asking this question. What else can you answer for them? What other questions might pop up after the interview for them? Get everything out on the table and get on step closer to being hired!
Always be prepared
By preparing your interview questions and answers, you’ll be well-equipped to enter the interview confident and ready to go. It’s much easier to calm your interview jitters when you feel prepared.
