Interviews are a little different these days! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0<\/span>companies are avoiding face-to-face interactions as much as possible for the health and safety of all involved. This means that if you have an upcoming interview, it may be a Zoom call. So, what can you do to prepare and do the best possible job?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n First and foremost,\u00a0<\/span>don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0take a Zoom interview any less seriously than you would an in-person interview. It will determine whether you get hired, so\u00a0<\/span>it\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0still an important step in the hiring process.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Research common interview questions and prepare your answers. Practice interviewing with a friend or family member to\u00a0<\/span>en<\/span>sure you have your answers down pat. Hint: if\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0unfamiliar with Zoom calls, set one up to practice your interview questions. This will give you a chance to figure out the best lighting, where to sit<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and how to use the Zoom program.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Don\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0assume that because your interview is over Zoom that it\u2019s more casual than normal. You should still get dressed up just like you would for an in-person interview. The only thing you can probably skip is your shoes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Choose a room in your home that is free from interruptions, including roommates, family members, and pets. It\u2019s understood these days that a child wandering into a Zoom call\u00a0<\/span>happens, but<\/span>\u00a0try to avoid any situations that will distract you from doing your very best during your interview<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be in front of a desktop computer, this isn\u2019t an issue. But if\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be using your laptop, phone or tablet, be sure it\u2019s charged. Just in case, have a charger with you and sit near an outlet in case your battery power starts to run low. Better yet, if you can, keep your device plugged in during your interview<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Keep a glass or bottle of water with you in case your mouth gets dry. This is an easy preparation that\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be glad you took if you end up needing it.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n By following these tips,\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0be ready to go come interview day.
