Right? Of course!

But you might have the “new person jitters.” This is perfectly normal. You’re getting used to new responsibilities, new coworkers, new processes… there’s a lot to take in. You might feel like it’s all you can do to keep your head above water as you learn. Being impressive will come a little ways down the road when you feel more comfortable, right?

Well, that’s not exactly true!

You might be surprised to learn that you can start impressing your employer and those around you from day one. There are small things you can do for a great start at your new job.

Five ways to make a good impression as a new insurance agent

Try any of the following (or all five!) to launch your new job towards a bright future:

Be on time—or communicate. Whether you’re in the office or logging on from home, be prompt. It shows respect for your boss and your dedication to your job. Don’t leave people waiting. If you absolutely cannot be on time (for example, you have back-to-back meetings and one is running over), contact your boss or others to let them know you’ll be late.

Be professional. In your tone of voice when speaking, in the things you say in person or emails, in the way you dress, and in the way you conduct yourself—always be professional. If you’re working from home, you might feel more casual, but you can still dress up for video meetings. And if you’re in the office, always be sure you look good and follow the dress code.

Be willing to learn. If there’s something you don’t know—ask! Stay open to what you can (and will) learn from your new team. Ask your boss if you can be assigned a mentor to help you do your very best.

Be respectful. When you’re new, the people around you have been on the job longer and have built experience that you’re just beginning. Never enter a new job with a chip on your shoulder. Instead, stay open-minded about everyone you interact with—give them credit for their knowledge and expertise.

Be kind. This is true when you’re new, and also just in general. You’ll always find the best in any situation when you keep your thoughts positive. Smile—people will see it in person and hear it on the phone. Your attitude goes a long way when you’re getting to know people, learning new things, and working together as a team.

Are you looking for your next insurance agent job?

Maybe you’re ready to look around for something new.
