This includes the insurance industry! If you’re one of the fortunate ones who has maintained your income while losing your commute, you’re more than familiar with the advantages of working right from your house. You don’t need to spend time getting ready, you’re in comfortable surroundings, and you can take your lunch break in any way you choose. However, with these benefits come challenges—for example, what if your pet won’t leave you alone or are tempted to watch a little Netflix? Working from home can also put pressure on your ability to concentrate and keep working hard!

Four ways to stay focused when working from home

You can stay just as productive in your house with a few tweaks as you do in the office. Just follow these tips:

Keep a daily routine. Set your alarm to get up, get changed, exercise, have breakfast, etc. before starting your day. If you approach each day more as if you were going into the office and less like you’re rolling out of bed to start work in your jammies, you may notice a mental shift. Your behavior will send the message to your body that it’s time to work.

Set up an office area. Working from your couch may be comfy, but it also puts you within easy access of your family members and pets, which can be distracting. But if you set aside a room or area of your house as your desk, you can keep all your supplies in one convenient place. Just like being in the office! Plus, when you sign out for the day and leave your office area behind, it helps create separation between work and your free time, which is important to help you maintain balance.

Get ready. It may seem silly to wake up, take a shower, and do your hair every morning. But this can be important to help you get started and motivated to work. It will help you maintain a sense of normalcy… plus, it’s also helpful if you’ll be on any video conference calls!

Take your breaks. Just because you’re home, it doesn’t mean the regular rules don’t apply. Taking your 10-minute breaks and lunch break allows your mind to relax and refocus, so you’ll return to your tasks fresh and ready to work. Being at home, you have different opportunities during break time, such as taking a walk or run, doing an online yoga class, having lunch with your family, doing a load of laundry or watching an episode of your favorite show.

Are you looking for something new?

Just because the job market has shifted doesn’t mean you can’t find a new job.
