By understanding your commitment to working on and achieving them, it will speak volumes about your passion for your career. It will also highlight your ability to think long-term and work hard to improve your skills. All of these qualities are selling points to a hiring manager.<\/p>\n

Four ways to answer this question<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re asked about career goals during an interview, you can answer effectively by including any of the following four points:<\/p>\n

  1. Be confident. <\/strong>Your ability to accomplish your career goals has to do with your own hard work. So when you talk about them, be confident! You know that you\u2019ll achieve what you set out to do through your own determination.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose one or two goals. <\/strong>Make it easy on yourself by describing just one or two goals you plan to tackle. This will help you stay focused and cross off each step along the way. They can be as big or as small as you like but choose achievable goals.<\/li>\n
  3. Align goals with the job you\u2019ve applied for. <\/strong>A key during your interview is to describe career goals that will make you even more qualified for the job for which you\u2019re interviewing. Conversely, if you describe goals that will take you down a different career path, an employer may think you\u2019re not serious about the job, or you won\u2019t be around for long\u2014and this can harm your chances of being hired.<\/li>\n
  4. Describe steps. <\/strong>When you talk about your career goals, list steps you\u2019ll take to get there. This shows that you\u2019re planning and thinking ahead\u2014proving that you\u2019re not just saying you\u2019ll do these things; you\u2019re thinking about ways you\u2019ll achieve them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
