It’s everything you’re looking for—checks all the boxes in your “perfect job” list, the company sounds solid, and the benefits are good. So if you apply and don’t hear back, it can be frustrating. Some companies will keep you informed of your status in their hiring process, while others do not.

If this happens to you, what should you do? You don’t want to sit back and not take action, because you’re interested in the job, but you don’t know exactly what your next step should be.

Send an email

If it’s been two weeks since you’ve applied and you haven’t heard anything, you can simply send an email to check-in. You’ll want to send it to the same email address to which you submitted your application unless you have the contact information of the hiring manager. Then, include the following in your message:

A clear subject line that includes the name of the position you’ve applied to, as well as your name.

A brief message about why you’re interested in the job and why you think you’d be a perfect fit. Keep it upbeat and courteous. Ask any questions you have about the job or the company.

Lots of review and editing. This is your time to shine, so don’t skimp on the review and editing process. Proofread, proofread, proofread before you hit send!

Make a phone call

After you send your email, if you still haven’t heard back after another two weeks, you can try to call the company to inquire about your status. Look up contact information on the company website. If you can get to the front desk, you may be able to connect to the Human Resources department or even the department you’ve applied to. If you get in touch with anyone, stay courteous, and to the point (just like in your email). Simply state that you’re interested in the job (use the exact title) that’s been posted, and you were wondering where they’re at in the hiring process. Give them your name. If you need to leave a message, don’t forget to leave your contact number, as well.

What if you still don’t hear back?

If, after both steps, you still don’t hear anything, it’s safe to assume it’s time to move on. And that’s OK! The right job for you is out there—don’t give up!

Are you looking for a job in the insurance industry?

If you’re an insurance professional and you’re looking for a new job, Insurancerecruiters.com can help.
