This helps you stay top-of-mind by reiterating your interest and showing your gratitude for the opportunity. Follow-up is simply the right thing to do when someone has taken the time to meet with you.<\/p>\n

Three ways to follow up<\/h2>\n

You want to be professional and sincere, and not border on annoying or overbearing. Follow these steps to get back in touch after you\u2019ve had an interview:<\/p>\n

  1. Send a note.<\/strong> The best follow-up letters are handwritten, but sending a follow-up email is acceptable and ensures quick delivery. Your thank you note should be short and to the point, with a friendly greeting and a word of thanks. You can also answer a question posed to you during the interview that you didn\u2019t completely answer in the moment, or repeat your interest in the position and why you\u2019d be a good fit.<\/li>\n
  2. Check back in.<\/strong> If it\u2019s been two weeks and you haven\u2019t heard back about the hiring decision, it\u2019s OK to reach back out to your interviewer to inquire about the position. An email is fine for this correspondence and should include a greeting, that you\u2019re curious about whether or not they\u2019ve filled the position and an inquiry about any other questions you can answer to help them reach their final decision.<\/li>\n
  3. Stay connected.<\/strong> If you don\u2019t hear back after your follow-up note, it\u2019s safe to assume the company went with a different candidate. But that\u2019s OK! There may be another opportunity in the future, and they have your resume on file. Connect with your interviewer on LinkedIn. Keep an eye on the company\u2019s website for when they\u2019re hiring again, and don\u2019t be afraid to re-apply.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
