(CT) – This is a newly created role because the company continues to expand by acquiring in force life insurance/annuities blocks of business. In this role, you’ll be working directly with the assistant Controller who is deep insurance professional and good mentor. The company is a well-known life and annuity reinsurance company specializing in the acquisition of in force life insurance and annuities as well as with assisting life insurance clients with product development, underwriting and new business strategies designed to serve the middle market.

 

The scope of this role is Statutory Accounting, specifically Life Insurance (Blue Book) and Annuities (Green Book) Accounting. A good knowledge of GAAP/STAT and ability to perform analysis is needed. Strong Excel skills and a CPA/MBA is a plus. A fuller job description is below:

 

Scope/Responsibilities:

 

Relative to a newly acquired block of Structured Settlement Annuities, Corporate Owned and Bank Owned Life Insurance ($14 Billion in total reserves), assume responsibility for the overall accounting of the block to include but not be limited to the following:


  • Assist in conversion and integration of the block.
  • Manage its quarterly close process, both STAT and GAAP, including:
  • Preparation of entries relative to reported activity, including Intra Group Retrocession;
  • Completion of financial statement tie outs;
  • Analysis of actual results versus expected results; and,
  • Preparation of supporting schedules to be used by Management.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory statements.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Audited Financial Statements, both STAT and GAAP.
  • Work across departments and with third party vendors as necessary.
  • Coordinate the development and submission of client related reporting

Experience Requirements:

 

  • Life insurance (reinsurance) experience, including statutory and GAAP financial reporting.
  • Statutory Blue Book and Green Book experience.
  • Strong accounting, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and good organizational skills.
  • Investment accounting experience a plus.

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong EXCEL skills a must.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint a plus
  • Educational Requirements:
  • BS or BA in Accountancy
  • Candidate with CPA or MBA a plus
Salary:  Open
Bonus/Benefits:  $100,000 - $130,000 plus bonus
