A brief description of duties include;
Daily contact with agents discussing risks with negotiations on pricing, coverages, acceptability and providing or requesting information. Contact with marketing representatives responding to inquiries regarding service, risk evaluation, questions on procedures, rates, premium evaluation and service. Regular team work with fellow Underwriting Assistants concerning rating and service issues along with regular contact with loss control concerning inspections and knowledge of certain exposures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Evaluate risks within well-defined parameters per a limited underwriting authority.
2. Review applications, MVR's, Experience Mods, Loss Experience, Loss Control Reports, Product Brochures for risk acceptability. May consult management, other underwriters, Internet, and Best Underwriting Guide. Evaluate coverages. Review applications, endorsement requests and renewals for limits and coverages requested.
3. Refers accounts for approval to the underwriter as required by the authority given.
4. Information gathering. Manage a book of business. Ask good questions when agent inquires if risk is acceptable. Select critical information needed.
5. Pricing of risk. Insure risk is properly classed. IRPM's, experience rating of judgment rates when necessary. Place risk in proper program. Review renewals.
6. Negotiate. Work with agents and CSR’s to obtain a saleable program for the agent/insured while avoiding adverse selection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Must have good communication skills, both oral and written. Must have ability to deal with people in a tactful and diplomatic manner. Must possess comercial insurance knowledge with analytical and mathematical skills.with direct rating experience preferred. Must maintain satisfactory working relationships with both agents and company personnel, while writing good, profitable business.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
College degree desired or equivalent insurance experience. Minimum three years commercial lines experience required, risk evaluation skills, effective communication skills, common sense judgments, good negotiation skills.
